I'm based in Sydney, and I built Simple Salary Calculator to help everyday Australians understand their pay, tax and super — without wading through ATO jargon to do it.
Try the Salary CalculatorWorking out your real take-home pay in Australia is needlessly confusing. Between income tax brackets, the Medicare levy and surcharge, HECS-HELP repayments, the superannuation guarantee, salary sacrifice and residency rules, it's genuinely hard to know what actually lands in your bank account. I started this site because I wanted one simple place where you enter your salary and immediately see the breakdown — tax, Medicare, super, HECS and net pay — with the rules behind it explained in plain English.
Every calculator uses the official Australian Taxation Office (ATO) rates and thresholds for the relevant financial year, and I update them each year — and whenever the government changes the rules mid-year, as happened with the 2025 HECS reforms. In the articles, where I quote a figure I link to the primary source (the ATO, the Fair Work Commission, the ABS, or the relevant legislation) and date it, so you can see how current it is and check it yourself.
I'm not a licensed financial adviser or a registered tax agent, and nothing on this site is personal financial or tax advice. The calculators produce estimates based on the standard rules and the information you enter — your own circumstances may differ. For decisions about your money, or a tax return you're unsure about, please speak to a registered tax agent or licensed adviser, or check directly with the ATO.
